The Role:

SEN Tutor

£15-£30 per hour (depending on skills and experience with the opportunity to earn more if working with multiple students)

The Role:The role will be to deliver sessions on a 1:1 basis to young people unable to attend mainstream education. The ideal candidate would have a caring and friendly nature allowing them to build a rapport with the young person. This role will involve providing Maths, English, or Science tuition to young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD / SLD), or other Additional Educational Needs referred to us by local authorities and schools. This role is perfect for those who are eager to work with young people via 1:1 tutoring with a variety of learning needs, in a creative, flexible, holistic, and trauma-informed manner, to raise their engagement and drastically improve the outlook of their educational journey.

Position Details:

  • Location: Child's home, Local library, or Community Centre
  • Hours: Part-time or Full-time - Most referrals are between 10-15 hours a week, equating to 2-3 hours per day. Tutors looking for a full-time role would usually work with multiple students for up to 6 hours per day.
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Subjects: English & Maths
  • Responsibilities:
    • To complete lesson reports and provide feedback on student progress

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Confidence working with a range of SEN/SEMH and challenging behaviours
  • Planning each session of teaching/tutoring/mentoring
  • Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the young person's progress
  • Being able to cater lesson plans to the child's individual needs
  • Demonstrating a nurturing and supportive nature with good behaviour management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Being able to identify existing and potential barriers to students’ learning and help them to overcome them
  • Be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to the individual needs
  • Have previous experience of working with children who have special educational needs
  • Have a positive attitude and willingness to build a rapport with the child

Tutor Employment Status:

  • You will work through a zero-hour contract basis and will be paid via PAYE
  • We do not offer any expenses coverage
  • This is not a self-employed tutoring/self-employed teaching position
