No one can dispute the fact that in the last few years, change has occurred in all aspects of life including work. We are now in the wake of the pandemic which totally changed the way we worked and the environment in which we worked. Add to this the ever increasing cost of living crisis, recent political changes and of course the unrest in Ukraine and you can be forgiven for worrying and procrastinating about inevitable changes. Yet, even in times of uncertainty you can still achieve your goals and aspirations and attain your dreams within work by learning to embrace change and make it work for you.
Changes can bring about challenges and can cause some indecisiveness regarding the direction you are going - but change can be positive. For example, working from home became a necessity for sixty per cent of the UK’s population during the recent pandemic restrictions. However, although statistics show that two thirds of employees state that they felt that they were far more productive whilst not having to travel and therefore work from the comfort of their own home, many have also stated that isolation was an issue as well which proves that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the work fence.
So how can you actually make change work in your favour ? Whether it is a new working environment, a structural reshuffle, newly recruited colleagues, a different managerial system bringing updated rules and policies, added responsibilities or even a change in salary or the hours that you work - a positive mindset is key to removing any blocks and obstacles that you may experience. Often blocks that you may come across are not necessarily physical ones, eg. people or finances but are much more likely to be mental blocks or self generated ideas that you have become used to as fact. Identifying your blocks then working on ways and strategies in order to overcome them as well as visualising yourself happy and content in the midst of any changes as if they had already happened is vital.
Staying motivated and pushing yourself forward as well as having an end goal will offer both clarity and incentive as well as finding ways in which you can personally contribute to the changes involved. It is then you will discover exciting ways in which change begins to work in your favour as you reap the rewards of the new and improved way of working.
