So, Why Do You Want To Work Here?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions that you will be asked in an interview situation. Of course, not all interviewers will ask this question or indeed follow a format of questioning but it is something you really need to prepare yourself to be asked.

This is one of the most commonly asked questions that you will be asked in an interview situation. Of course, not all interviewers will ask this question or indeed follow a format of questioning but it is something you really need to prepare yourself to be asked.

You do need to tell yourself that THIS is the job that you want and the reasons why. If you tell yourself and believe it yourself, you are much more likely to convey this belief to the interviewer which is a positive factor.

Hopefully though, you have managed to secure an interview in a company that you really do want to work for, so before the day of the interview arrives, you need to have completed your homework on the company.

The company itself will be keen to recruit potential employees who show enthusiasm and interest for the company. They want someone who will be loyal to the company and who will demonstrate focus, drive and passion. Therefore, there is no better way to impress the interviewer than to have educated yourself on certain aspects of the company when questioned and to be able to answer with competence.

There is no need to feel worried and nervous or that the interviewer is trying to trip you up in some way by asking this question. They just want to know what you can offer them if they give you the job. You can keep your responses fairly short yet still concise.

Study the company so you know exactly what it does and how it fits into any relevant industries. How many people does it employ? Is it a local or a national / international company? Research the pay scales, shift patterns, possibility of promotions and further learning and the hierarchy and structure of the company. Learn about the company’s culture, values, mission, purpose and work ethics.

Don't be afraid to say that you believe that your positive talents, qualifications, experience, knowledge, interest and / or previous jobs will help this company to succeed.

Make the interviewer aware of any past successes within other companies and your roles. Did you learn any particular lessons that could boost another company? Did you devise any new strategies which were then embraced and implemented by a previous employer?

Sell yourself well and mention your unique skills and how you feel they enable you to be matched to this particular role, your own personal desire to succeed, your ambitions and how you would use this opportunity to further add to the company.
