Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR) is a third sector organisation, we are here to help individuals bridge a gap from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’. We support those seeking to recover. We do this by supporting, representing and connecting the local recovery community in a variety of ways. These include providing a safe, non-judgemental and supportive environment for people to come together who wish to make changes in their lives and learn how to recover. Those who embark on their journey of change learn from the experts – the people who have walked the path before them! One of AiR’s objectives is to promote the availability of support and resources. We do this by delivering a timetable of groups, meetings, training and workshops including men’s and women’s groups, peer 2 peer mentor training, cuppa with a purpose to name a few.
Aberdeen in Recovery is a small independent charity. We work with people in recovery, treatment providers, recovery communities and support agencies to build the capacity of the recovery movement on a local and national level. Joining the Board of Directors The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that the charity conducts all business in a safe, legal and morally responsible way. The Board has final approval on organisational policies, budgets and work-plans for each year. The Board also accounts for the work of the organisation to OSCR, Companies House, Funders and to the Scottish Government. When an individual joins the Aberdeen in Recovery Board of Directors, they will become a legal Trustee of the charity “Aberdeen in Recovery”. Board Members are all unpaid volunteers who donate their time to the work of Aberdeen in Recovery. Commitment requested from Board Members The Aberdeen in Recovery Board of Directors meets on a quarterly basis and regular attendance at these meetings is required. A Finance Sub-Group and a Governance Sub-Group, which consists of Board Members, also meet on a quarterly basis and attendance may also be requested at these meetings. Meetings can be attended either in person or by a team’s call. Board members are typically requested to have read a variety of organisational papers and have reflected on these before every meeting. Board Members are automatically invited to attend Aberdeen in Recovery events and will on occasion be asked to contribute their wisdom and experience on an operational level such as leading a workshop at a large-scale event. Duration of Board Membership A Board Member can serve for as long as they wish and can leave at any time. Any serving Board Member who wishes to remain can stand for re-election each year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
