At HMP Rye Hill we are extremely proud of our excellent reputation and the difference we believe we make to all we come into contact with. Whilst security is always paramount within a prison, creating and building a rehabilitative environment where prisoners feel safe and are nurtured is pivotal to our success. Our staff are highly trained in the necessary skills required to operate a modern prison. Management are clear on their expectation of leadership and direction and are highly visible in their support of staff.
All successful PCOs will participate in an Initial Training Course (ITC) before becoming fully operational. This is a mandatory course in order to be certificated as a Prison Custody Officer. The ITC consists of, but is not limited to, the following: ■ Security Awareness ■ Interpersonal Skills ■ Health & Safety ■ Human Rights ■ Control and Restraint ■ First Aid at Work ■ Dealing with Vulnerable prisoners ■ Onsite shadowing at operational prison (4 weeks) You will be required to pass all elements of the course and full support will be provided by the Training Manager and colleagues at the Prison.
