The Role:

Watercourse Maintenance Technician

Job Description: Routine Maintenance of Watercourses & Associated Structures Position Title: Watercourse Maintenance Technician Location: Bristol Work Hours: Full-time position; typical hours are 8am – 4pm, with occasional evening or weekend work as required. Pay: £12.26 - £13.36/hour Job Summary: The Watercourse Maintenance Technician is responsible for the routine maintenance and upkeep of watercourses and associated structures. This includes activities such as cleaning, repairing, and inspecting water channels, culverts, embankments, and other related structures to ensure their proper functioning and compliance with environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Routine Inspection and Maintenance: o Conduct regular inspections of watercourses, including rivers, streams, and drainage channels, to identify any blockages, erosion, or damage. o Perform routine cleaning and clearing of debris, silt, and vegetation from watercourses and associated structures. 2. Repair and Restoration: o Undertake minor repair works on embankments, banks, and other structures to prevent erosion and ensure structural integrity. o Assist in the restoration of damaged watercourses and structures, including regrading, reseeding, and reinforcing as needed. 3. Monitoring and Reporting: o Monitor water levels, flow rates, and the condition of watercourses regularly. o Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and any issues identified, reporting them to the Maintenance Supervisor. 4. Compliance and Safety: o Ensure all maintenance activities comply with environmental regulations and best practices. o Adhere to health and safety guidelines, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices. 5. Community and Stakeholder Interaction: o Communicate effectively with local residents, landowners, and stakeholders regarding maintenance activities and any potential disruptions. o Participate in community engagement activities to promote awareness and understanding of watercourse maintenance. 6. Equipment Operation and Maintenance: o Operate and maintain equipment such as excavators, mowers, and hand tools used in the maintenance of watercourses and structures. o Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults or issues promptly. Skills (desirable but not essential): • Knowledge of watercourse maintenance techniques and best practices. • Ability to operate and maintain various maintenance equipment and tools. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • IT literate (able to use the provided hardware and software) Physical Requirements: • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and working in various weather conditions. • Must hold a full driving licence. • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Training: • Requisite training on induction will be given by OnSite • Relevant PPE will be issued by OnSite • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening will be required • A safety critical medical will be given during induction training
