While many people are more than content sitting at an office desk for work, others love being behind the steering wheel and enjoying the open road. If the latter is more to your liking, there may come the point where you decide it’s time for a career change.

Those who have a passion for cars may not realise all the career opportunities out there. If you’re a petrol head, there are so many avenues you can go down that allow you to relish in your hobby while earning money in the process! With that in mind, here are some brilliant career ideas for people who love cars.

Taxi Driver

In a nutshell, taxi drivers use a vehicle from a cab company to ferry passengers from A to B. They must follow safe driving practices, load and unload passengers, and provide professional and friendly service to every single passenger. The great thing about taxi driving is you can do it on a self-employed basis. This means you are in charge and have control over the hours you work. There are lots of companies you can work for on a self-employed basis, such as Uber. If you’re a people person, have excellent communication skills, and adhere to the rules of the road, a taxi driver role may be perfect for you.

Driving Instructor

However long you’ve been driving for, we all had to start somewhere. When you take to the roads, you’re bound to spot learner drivers giving it their best shot. If you like the idea of helping learner drivers get to grips with the rules of the road, becoming a driving instructor may be a no-brainer. Of course, if you use your own car you will need to make sure you’re fully insured when taking to the roads. You can check out Quotezone.co.uk who can help you find the best insurance provider quotes from the best car insurance companies quotes. The best car insurance possible is obviously a no-brainer for any driver but ensuring you have the right coverage is doubly important for any instructor. Once you’re insured and completed the relevant training, you can either work for yourself as a driving instructor or work for an existing company.

Mechanic

If you like getting your hands dirty and find the components of a car fascinating, becoming a mechanic may suit you down to the ground. Those who can solve problems and work their way around an engine could be a brilliant fit for this role. There are a wide array of duties mechanics perform in a typical day. These include performing basic care and maintenance, checking fluid levels, and changing oil. Other duties include repairing or replacing worn parts and performing repairs to customer specifications. If you’re interested in seeing where becoming a mechanic could take you, check out this article for more info.

Industry Journalist

For those who have a way with words, why not put pen to paper and become a car industry journalist? This job enables you to write about your love of cars, as well as gain a huge following in the process. Whether you work for a huge company or even set up your own blog, car journalists get to divulge in their love of cars, while potentially making a fortune along the way. The primary duty of an automotive journalist involves reporting on and producing news stories about the car industry. In this field, you write about car models, engine designs, and new automotive products dominating the scene.

Car Salesperson

Do you find yourself talking about cars and all their specifications on a day-to-day basis? If the answer is yes, why not turn your love and enthusiasm for vehicles into a sales career? In this role, you can share your knowledge and expertise about makes and models and steer them (no pun intended) into buying a car. Take a look at car showrooms near you. There are always positions available in the sales field which allow you to chat about cars 24/7! To excel in this field, you need to have confidence in yourself and master the art of persuasion. You’ll also need to have a good idea over what cars  are the best option for certain types of customers, so check out this article for which cars are best suited for the typical family.

Delivery Driver

Let’s face it, we all rely on delivery drivers. Whether you’re waiting for your ASOS parcel, something from the Royal Mail, or looking forward to a tasty takeaway, delivery drivers are always in high demand. For those who don’t want to give up their day job but could do with some extra income, why not do a spot of delivery driving after work? Not only do you get to drive around and be behind the steering wheel, but you’ll also earn some money in the process! When you drop items off, you’ll meet tons of customers who are happy to see you! You also get the chance to explore the area or city you’re in more.

If the idea of getting paid to drive or be around cars for a living interests you, now is the time to consider a career change. Whether you become a taxi driver, sell vehicles, or love writing about them, there are so many paths you can look into which come with attractive salaries.
