Now that the clocks have gone forward and the longer (and hopefully warmer!) days are upon us, many people decide to give their homes a spring clean. Even the most house proud among us usually detect a cobweb or two once the windows and doors are open for longer, letting the natural daylight and fresh air in to permeate our homes. After a long winter, it is the ideal time to refresh, reenergise and refocus!
As well as making a welcome difference within our homes, we can also do the same for other aspects of life such as our habits, mindset and working spaces! Whether you work from home, work in an office setting or anywhere in between, a little attention to spring cleaning can work wonders, bringing in fresh energy and boosting productivity.
It can be all too easy to work on autopilot especially if the same tasks are completed and repeated at the same time and in the same way each day. Of course, having a routine can be helpful but it can also lead to stagnation. To counteract this, you may need to take a step back while assessing your current routine and seeing if it is actually helping or hindering you to reach your goals. A shift or a tweak in your work habits or schedules could make a positive difference.
You may benefit from implementing new tools such as time blocking techniques or you may decide to simply reshuffle the priorities that you have, reflecting what you feel is currently important. In your physical workspace, it may seem insignificant to clean your desk, add a houseplant or even change the working environment that surrounds you, but by doing this, it can bring a surprising lift in energy.
Over time, you may lose sight of the bigger picture and what you are working for or towards, especially if your daily tasks seem tedious or boring and are not aligned with your long term goals. Spring is a great opportunity to renew and redefine your professional direction. After all, this time of year is viewed as a time for rebirth and new beginnings. You may even decide to implement strategies to reinvent yourself, what you stand for and how you feel you are perceived by others.
Reconnect with your unique purpose and you should start feeling a greater sense of clarity and motivation and feel happier in general, especially if you are clear on where you are heading and why. Just like your living space, your working life deserves a seasonal refresh. When you put effort in to declutter your mind, refocus your direction and recharge your energy, you will be able to step into the summer months with renewed motivation and a clear path forward.
