Ipswich is a town in the county of Suffolk which is situated in East Anglia and is only a few miles inland from the coastline, lying on the estuary of the River Orwell. It is approximately 75 miles from London and a direct train can get you there in around an hour and a quarter. The nearest airport to the town is Southend.
Ipswich, a port town with over 650 listed buildings, claims to be the oldest town in England with a continuous settlement and it has seen much activity during the centuries. The Romans, the Vikings and the Saxons have all left their mark here as well as royalty. The town’s dock was once of huge significance for trade of all kinds of import and export goods from soap to grains. Ship building was also once a major part of the dockyards of the River Orwell and the port remained ever busy.
The port, which is situated at the head of the river and only twelve miles from the open sea,is still in operation today and has been placed at number one export port for agricultural products over many years. Over two million tonnes of cargo are handled here each year. Ipswich has a proficient and highly talented workforce and the area is well known and respected as a thriving hotspot for skilled jobs. Sectors include health care, manufacturing, transport and logistics, technology, education, energy and environment, food and agriculture and retail.
Ipswich is home to many attractions which include the beautiful Orwell Park on the banks of the river, the fascinating and historic Christchurch Mansion which dates from the 16th century and the Ipswich Transport Museum. The vibrant waterfront is a culturally historic and significant area which surrounds the marina and offers a selection of cafes, restaurants and luxury apartments and is a place where you can relax and watch the boats upon the water. The modern dock was constructed in 1842 and the area was functioning up until the 1970’s.
The University of Suffolk, spread over four separate campuses including a central hub in Ipswich is a fairly new university, having opened in 2007 yet has proved itself to be not only successful but also increasingly popular and attracts students from all over the world.

The next event being hosted by the UK Careers Fair will be held on April 12th between 10am - 2pm. The venue is Ipswich Town Hall, IP1 1DH. This is one of East Anglia’s most prestigious venues and is conveniently situated in the centre of the town. A Grade II listed building, it is used for meetings of Ipswich Borough Council as well as serving as an events venue and art gallery.
