Whilst there are always temporary or seasonal jobs available, as we approach the festive season, you will notice many, many companies advertising for staff but this is often on a temporary basis.
Christmas is an especially busy time of year for most people when we are generally much more indulgent and with an excess of travelling, shopping, entertaining and eating out than any other time of year, that requires a lot more people behind the scenes to make it all possible.
Many companies start planning Christmas time months ahead, usually at the end of the Summer and jobs are advertised from around now onwards but whatever time of year it is, temporary or seasonal jobs will always become available at differing times of the year.
So, should you apply for a temporary job? The answer is a very definite yes and there are several reasons for this.
Temporary jobs can quite often lead to a permanent position. If you have worked diligently, made an effort to get to know your colleagues, been punctual, smart and polite and shown a genuine interest in the company itself, you will have no doubt made a positive impression which will stand you in good stead for any future permanent employment role.
Of course, not all companies are in a position to offer you a permanent position once your temporary contract has come to an end, but what they can do is keep your information on file in the event of a suitable position becoming available and you can regularly check if there are any vacancies. Ensure your manager is aware of your interest and keenness in working for the company as and when suitable vacancies arise.
The experience you gain will have been invaluable. Whatever we do in life is a learning experience and this experience can be a valuable tool for our next venture. For example, if you find yourself working in a retail environment which you have never done before then you will be learning and gaining useful communication skills enabling you to interact positively with different types of people as well as working under pressure and great numeracy ability.
You will receive a good reference that you can show to other prospective employers and of course not forgetting that you will be able to add your temporary employment details to your C.V.
Often a temporary job will bring us a fresh outlook on life and new friendships will have been forged as well as the increased financial opportunities and the newly founded skills.
